We have a lovely gentleman working in our camp whose name is Tom and he's from Nova Scotia. Tom has veneers on his teeth and has had a couple of them fall out in the past. Recently one of them fell out again and as advised by his dentist to NOT IN ANY WAY to use the super-glue they found in the shop to glue his $1000 tooth back on but to wait for the special glue from the dentist.
So Tom waited patiently for the glue to arrive from Yellowknife and smiled a toothy - toothless grin until then. Finally the day came when Tom walked into the core shack and his smile was fixed! About 4 days later, Tom's smile was back to where it was previously and apparently, during dinner the previous night, the 'special' glue from the dentist had failed and Tom had accidentally eaten his tooth!
Now being in a remote camp, you get to know a few things and talk about other things that you normally wouldn't talk about. We have a very devoted/committed boy named Kenny in our camp who religiously changes the receptacle bags in the pactos (our unconventional toilets - no water-go in plastic bags) every morning and freely talks about his experiences (although sometimes too much!). He made the suggestion, well actually joke at the time, that Tom wait a day or two and pay him some money to filter through things one morning looking for the now infamous tooth! Tom being the practical man that he is decided to take matters into his own hands and bypassed on the pactos, had a little "doo" on the tundra and found his tooth!
By now, we are all totally in awe of this damn pain in the ass-expensive tooth to even care about being grossed out at the lengths that Tom has gone through for it! We would really like to know what he used to sift with?! There are no trees up here so it's not like you could just reach over and grab a twig or stick?! As well, we are totally mystified about HOW he knew WHICH one to sift through! Tom you are our hero!
The crowning glory came when the new medic arrived in camp to find this beautiful, shiny, clean tooth soaking in a tray of rubbing alcohol in her medic room. She made a joke that night at dinner how she was going to put the tooth under her pillow for the tooth fairy and couldn't understand why the whole kitchen burst out laughing! "Not THAT tooth!" says our dear Tom with his larger than life toothy-toothless grin!!!
