Mexico Update - Part 2

hello all,

found another internet cafe, this time it´s only $1 per hour instead of three...we are starting to feel our way around Zihuatanejo a little more...figure out where the good and bad deals are.

So what has happened since our last update? Nothing much....no, just kidding! We have met some great people from Montana (Kalispell) so I asked if they knew a friend, Sandi from photography school...no, they didn´t.....we have met another couple from Alaska that just rolled into the place we are staying yesterday. Young and full of energy. Very nice. We all sat around with the owner (luis) yesterday morning and talked about everything. It seems that the place we are staying is very conducive to having stimulating conversations....US politics, sustainability, local customs, sea life, sharks, finding washed up tourists on the beach(Only 1 in the 8yr history of Luis being there with Qunita de Liz)...apparently they somehow fell off a cruise ship way out at sea and ended up on Troncones beach.....and most of all just telling good travel stories!

After our last trip to Zihuatanejo, we were dropped off by the bus on the highway at the turn off to Troncones. To walk, it´s close to 5km and it was getting dark. we weren´t sure if the ´collectivo´ (the local bus) was still running as it was almost dark.(we found out later that it wasn´t). so we were weighing our options; do we wait for the collectivo, do we start walking and just as we turned to walk, a truck stopped and asked if we needed a ride. So we hitchhiked with them. They dropped us off on ¨main street¨ (a couple of small business, lots of dogs, kids, roosters and the occasional pig traffic - no i´m not kidding!) and we walked back to Quinta de Liz. We found out the next morning from Luis that it was a good thing we didn´t walk because at night, tarantulas come out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Luis started laughing and said they were harmless, he just wouldn´t want us to step on one! Apparently when he arrives home in the evening, he needs to swerve his car to make sure he doesn´t hit them on the road (mostly because he loves and respects them). I think I would have had a complete meltdown and Andreas would have had to piggy back me home! If it were snakes, it would have been me piggy backing him home!!!

So thankfully, no large spider incidents can be reported yet!

We are going to book a group surf lesson with our new friends from Alaska in the next few days. As well, there are several bays north of Troncones that are worth checking out too...so, much to do in the next little while. Getting loads of reading done too which is good since I hauled down 6 books!
