Mexico Update -Part 1

Hi all,

we are sitting in an internet cafe that took us most of the day to find and when we got here, it was closed, even though its supposed to be open.....agghhh...welcome to mexico!!! needless to say, we found someone to let us and are now happily typing away for 1 hour = $3usd.

our flights down were good although we were delayed by about 1.5hrs our of LA. we arrived and shockingly took a $78usd EACH cab ride to troncones. we were going to try and do it on the bus but because we arrived so late, we didn´t want to be standing on the side of the road in the dark. So, that one hurt but we arrived safely to troncones and had a nice driver who stopped to let us buy water and beer of course!

The place we are staying is GREAT! www.playatroncones.com the guy who owns it is in his 40´s and is a pretty hip dude from chiapas. his name is Luis and we´ve had a few great conversations with him. he´s totally laid back and so the atmosphere is just the same. out the front of his place is miles of beach with sandy bottoms (and one rock I seem to keep stubbing my toe on!) with loads of surf and we´ve been swimming at least twice a day. ALL of the guests are from the pacific northwest which i think speaks loads about the kind of places we seek out. we connected particularly well with one couple from seattle who have been working in antarctica for the last 5 months and know a good friend of a friend of mine who is a pilot!!!! What a crazy small world! We had several meals with them and talked about life, traveling, us politics, sustainability , construction and food! They were great fun and they left today.

There are many different places to eat around town too.....the word town is used very loosely!......there is a yuppie yoga retreat that has a nice restaurant and then there are the ´local´ places were many of the mexicans eat. we went to the yoga place b-c we met the owner, an american artist, on the beach with his two puppies. he found out i was a reiki master and asked if wanted some work! hahaha i´m going to talk to him tomorrow....$30usd a session in my pocket and the chance to do reiki in mexico is great!

We have been eating at different places, finding out what we like and then going back for more. Andreas has fallen in love with mexican food, especially shrimp tacos!!! The guacamole down here is out of this world!!!

We are in Zihuatanejo today which is about 40min south of Troncones. We took the local bus here and need to find our way back soon. It was an adventure, banda music blaring, the bus had curtains and of course, you can flag it down from anywhere on the side of the road!

Today was our first day venturing out. our bungalow is very cute, has an open aired shower and much charm. we have been doing a lot of reading, sleeping and exploring locally as well as trying to body surf. the real surf lesson will be soon!

I will try and write as often as I can although it´s quite a journey to find an internet place!!!
