hello all,
back again, in Zijuatanejo, enjoying the airconditioning of the internet cafe! We have been really busy and enjoying life to the fullest the last few days!
Sunday night, one of the local bars in town had a Mexican Fiesta to raise money for the local kids uniforms-school supplies. They had some of the highschool kids come and do folk dancing and it was really great! It was pretty similar to flaminco in a way as there is lots of fancy footwork and stamping! Beautiful costumes. They also did some break dancing and had one vegas style number that was almost a little too much for them just being in highschool......what the hell though....it was an attention getter! We went with a group of people who were staying at Quinta de Liz and we had fun.
We have been seeing quite a lot of ´wildlife´ in town!!! We were walking down the road the other day and along with the pig troupe (one VERY large sow and her 12 piglets), there is also a VERY large turkey and her two adolsecent chicks. To make things even stranger, we were walking up the the store and we heard what sounded like a baby crying...close by....we looked around and were surrounded mostly by bushes and then a house just up the road...so we kept walking and the crying got louder but it was a little off.....we got up to the house and the crying was really loud and even more strange. We looked up on the roof of the house and here is a large green parrot walking back and forth across the roof and crying like a baby!!! Every now and then the parrot would giggle, hiccup and then make cooing noises!! It was a total trip! We both felt like we were in the twillight zone! We told some of the people we were staying with and they had seen the bird earlier the day before and told us the story of this 25yr old parrot and the family baby that he imitates is now 5 years old. So STRANGE!! To top off the wildlife experience, today when we were waiting for the bus into town, Andreas noticed a large (about the size of my hand) TARANTULA casually walking across the road! eeeeeeee (really I´m so interested....) so we went and had a closer look. Just a beatiful spider going for a stroll. We took a few photos. it was black and a bright orange. They are actually quite gentle and it didn´t freak me out as much as little spiders..probably because it was moving so slowly! hahahahaa
We took a surf lesson yesterday with a couple from Sitka, Alaska. There is an American from Oregon who lives in Troncones 8 months a year and this is his business. He was great and took us to a very deserted beach to practice. We were only allowed in the ´white wash¨(after the wave has broken) because the swell is average 8-12feet right now! As well, there is a strong current and rip currents as well. Thankfully we didn´t encounter any rips. Andreas was really good and stood up most of the waves he caught. Me, I was more like 1 for every 3 waves. The fin caught my thigh and I have a nice bruise....goes nicely with my boogie boarding idiot bruise (made a stupid mistake and got boogie board rash on my leg and stomach). I crunched my toes on the board too and one of them is now close to the color of my toe nail polish...a little black and blue! Regardless I was in HEAVEN! We will try again when the swell gets smaller.
It rained this morning but it was more like a spring shower. The weather has been great and we are planning a few days trip to Morelia and surrounding area. Morelia is a colonial town and nearby is the famous cinder cone, Paracutin! We are hopefully going to get to the top of the 2800m cone and look in the crater..its dormant but steams a lot. Hopefully we will find internet cafes so we can keep you along for the ride!
