Well, it's almost been a week since our official housewarming party. We staged it as a multi-cultural potluck in celebration of the cultural empathy exercise we had participated in the day before. It was a riot and we all learned how to play a card game in small groups, were given 5 minutes to practice and then for the rest of the time we could not talk or write words...only gesture and laugh. If we lost, we had to move tables, if we won, we also had to move tables. So, as you can imagine 45 minutes of chaos, laughter and much arm-waving ensued! Once the exercise was over, only then did we learn that each table had a different set of rules on how to play the game! A great metaphor for handling situations that include other cultures....assume NOTHING!
So, onto the potluck......Robert, our roommate/landlord rolled in at 6:15pm with a couch, two chairs, a lamp and dishes. We set up and the first guests arrived at 6:45pm and the party began! We had over 60 people eating in our house. After the food was consumed, we talked, shared ideas, drank and of course, danced! Here are some highlights!
