We have spent the last two days chilling out in a hotel on the beach in Ajman, north of Dubai. We had originally planned to stay for two nights in a beach resort in Dubai but the new Lonely Planet book that we purchased for Dubai grossly under rated the rates for the beach resorts in Dubai! Many of them charge $600-800 a night! Next time we will have to budget for them but not this time!
Our beach resort was a little older and less magnificent than the ones in Dubai but it had a beautiful stretch of white, sandy beach and waves! We had a newly renovated room that was very beautiful and extremely comfortable with an amazing ocean view. We spent much of the two days there floating in the waves and trying to body surf some of the bigger ones. Salty sea dogs!
On the second day we took a tour to the local mall and on the way home we stopped at a place called "Hole in the Wall". Prior to our trip to Ajman, my dad told us about this place that would sell alcohol without a special permit. Our taxi driver knew exactly where we needed to go and so we purchased a six-pack of Heineken for 30 Dirhams ($10CAD)! Wine, whiskey, beer, spirits...anything you wanted you could buy! No more 30 Dirhams per beer at the hotel!
We have one more night here and then we are off to Canada! See you soon!
